This trial “picker project” gathered 30 coffee pickers who were then trained by quality control experts in the optimization of harvesting coffee cherries. These pickers were then paid twice the normal pay per kilo of coffee picked at peak ripeness. The trial was very successful - the quality of coffee improved greatly and and a new trustworthy relationship was forged from the resulting hard work and the promise of just pay. The Pickers Project is now expanding to two more coffee producing regions and will help the workers towards gaining governmental recognition.
